Don't be shy with potential gf/bf. I learned the hard way.

4 years ago I liked this one girl who also liked me.
She had asked me to dance at my Gr. 8 Grad but at that time I was looking down not realizing it was her I said I don't want to dance. She left partly in tears. In Gr. 9 I tried to ask her to the dance but didn't get the courage to. Eventually other people in the school found out and right in front of her, another person ask me if I liked that girl. I stood frozen for 5 seconds. As I walked away I heard a girl yell "Oh, my gawd. Oh, my gawd. Oh, my gawd. EEEEEEEE!!!!!!" Later on in the year one of my friends asked when she was right beside me if we were going out. With all that happened I knew I wasn't ready for this. I told her the truth and she said that's fine but she'll be waiting till I was. That day never came because the next summer she moved away. I haven't seen her since then.
This was the most psychologically devestating thing that has happened to me. I have never grown attached to any other person. I have since have tried to conquer my shyness enough so that I can get up and try and find the person that will fill the hole in myself that that girl left behind.

With all due respect "Get over it". How can something so small have such a great effect on you. In your life you will have to face dozens of humiliating situations. From rejection of another girl or being chewed out by a boss in front of others. Have we raised such a weak generation that every negative event devastates them so it takes years to get over it if they ever do. The first rule in this world you should learn is no one cares about you as you do. So the next time someone rejects you or ridicules you put it out of your mind and move on. Happiness is around the next corner but only if you are looking forward to see it and not backward on what happened to you in the past
