Mazo Beach is o the wisconsin river. ts waters run west from the middle of wisconsin to he missippi river 100 some miles west. when te river is low late in the summer there is a broad sandy beach at the end of a short boat ramp where the beach is a dark golden sand with black undertones. so it can get quite warm in the sun. Its a nice fine level sand without being powdery or silty.verry little mud in the area as its atop firm layer of bedrock. you can see a few outcropings at the ramp and steep hills and ridges on less than a quarter mile away on the north side of the River. the beach extends about 1/2 mile upstream and 1/4th mile downstream from the ramp. at low water the beach is about 80 to 100 feet wide leading to the watr thats about 2 feet deep acrost the river. at high water the beach is covered bye water a foot or so deep leading to 5 or 6 feet in the middle with a couple sand bars standing up out in the river. the area is serounded bye woods. onan average summer day there can be up to 100 ore more people at any given tme on th beach with 3 to 4 hundred visiting over the corse of the day. bicycles are very common means of geting from the parking lot to the beach area.
in recent years there have been some problems with people coupleing and wandering off into the woods for private encounters so there is often 1 or 2 park rangers on the beachand wandering through the woods to discourage this. there are often people playing vollyball on the beach or sandbars and there is even 2 yahoo groups dedicated to mazo beach.
